David Gersh, Eric's best friend, is a hairdresser and the proprietor of Eden, a highly successful day spa in Midtown Manhattan. Eden opened in the summer of 2005, replacing David's Coiffeteria, the salon he'd owned for many years.

He lives in a fabulously decorated apartment on Central Park West with his dog, Matisse, and his boyfriend, Miguel. While his mother opposes his living with a gentile, David's friends know that the relationship has been a positive experience for both men. David's prior dating experiences were often disastrous, and exposed the vulnerable side of his otherwise catty, flamboyant personality.

A native New Yorker, David tested HIV-positive in the summer of 1994. He takes a variety of medications, and his viral load remains low, but he has faced side effects such as depression, dizziness, and blackouts.

In his spare time, David enjoys flower-arranging, decorating, and watching old movies.
