Annie O'Malley was relatively new to the force when she became Joey's
partner, after Lou retired. She hadn't known many gay people at that
point (or hadn't been friends with them, anyway), and bought into all
of the old stereotypes. Most of these she learned from her husband Charlie,
a "sloppy, uncouth jerk," to hear Joey tell it.
Since she's gotten to know Joey, however, Annie has begun to open her
mind, and now acknowledges - somewhat grudgingly at times - that Joey
and his friends aren't so very different from straight people.
